Mechanical engineering is a broad discipline that deals with the improvement and modification of mechanical components (machines) and systems. A machine is an assembly of parts that work together to perform action(s).

Solving the screening test (English Portion)

Usually the first step of the recruitment process for most of the companies is the aptitude test which somtimes also contains some technical questions as well. I am not an expert in solving aptitude tests. Here I am just disclosing the techniques that I adopted to sole such tests.
English, Mathematical and Analytical portions are usually there in almost every test. The first and foremost thing that is needed to be done is time distribution. Divide your time into say 3 portions if your test contains 3 parts. The time allocated to each part should be proportional to the number of of questions in that particular portion. Start with English/ Verbal first.Carefully read the statement once, analyze it for a couple of seconds and then try to find some logic that support your answer unless you are damn sure of it. This whole process should take maximum 20-25 seconds if the statement is short. If you fail to find a logic to support your answer then start with a reverse approach and start eliminating those answers which you think are completely wrong. This might leave you with 2 or 3 options. Now select the one which has the maximum chances of being the correct one.
Do this process once only, don't waste time because for Verbal portion if you dont get to the answer in first thirty seconds then you might end up at the same situation after 1 or 2 minutes. Save your time for Maths and Analytical

Interview question: Introduce yourself

In all the interviews I have appeared in, the first question was "Introduce yourself". Most of us take this question for granted and consider it as an ice breaker. It even might be so from the perspective of some recruiters but we should take it as an opportunity to sell ourselves.

Remember,

"Introduce yourself= Ok Mr X, I am giving you one minute, if you succeed in impressing me then the job is yours"

If you prepare your answer considering it an opportunity to impress the recruiter, you will definitely feel a difference. What we usually do is that we waste this essential minute in discussing our family background, our school, college and other stuff that is completely useless for the recruiter. Try discussing those things which make you different, tell your achievements, your extra curricular activities, your unique qualities and definitely the title of your degree and your grades if they are not like those as mine ;)

Tips for Pepsico's screening (written) test(Only for Pakistan)

Last year i.e. in 2012 Pepsico called almost 40 student from Mechanical Engineering Department for their initial screening test. The criteria through which these 40 were shortlisted still remains a mystery. Fortunately my name was also in that list.
The test was MCQ type, comprising almost 40 questions in

Interview Question: Your Strengths and weaknesses

Mr. X what are you strengths and weaknesses? This is the 2nd most frequent question that recruiters usually ask. But unfortunately most of us don't know how to tackle this question in the best way. Even I myself learned it quite late by analyzing my own interviews, interviews that I took to decide the next executive body of ASME UET Student Chapter and the experiences that my friends shared with me. Now let me explain how to answer this question.
The first part is a bit easy and most of us mange to answer it in a good way but not in the best way. What we usually say is that I am hardworking, enthusiastic, devoted, a good leader, confident e.t.c.
Some of us take it to the next level by giving examples of our hard work or devotion but almost none of us tells the recruiter about the source of these strengths.
According to my opinion the best way to tell about your

CV Writing for fresh graduates and students

About CV writing:

I would say that CV writing is an art that a person acquires only by practice. And the most interesting thing about this art is that the CV would approach perfection if and only if a person writes his/her own CV rather than refilling a template, or customizing a friend's CV or requesting someone else to write a CV for you. The reason behind this is the fact that no one else knows you better than yourself and hence when it comes towards creating a "Marketing Document" that would sell your skills than I would recommend you to do it yourself. Now most of you might be thinking from where should I start writing my CV and where to end it.

Essentials to get a job | TECHNICALITIES

The second most important thing according to me are the technicalities. An engineer should be strong in his field up to a reasonable extent. It is a shortcoming in most of the engineering programes in Pakistan that the method of delivering knowledge to the students is not interactive and usually students are exposed to only bookish knowledge. As a result of which it becomes almost impossible for students to recall what they had studied in approximately 40 different courses in 4 years of their education programme.I am here by suggesting a few techniques that will definitely help you in enhancing your technical knowledge.

1) Get Organized:

Make a separate drive in your computer that is dedicated to the data that is related to your education. Make separate folders for each semester and within those folders organize the data related to different subjects in different folders.

Essentials to get a job | PERSONALITY

I would categorize the tools that one should improve into the following four types

1)Personality:

Personality plays a vital role in winning a job. Learn how to boost your confidence, improve your body language and increase your leadership skills.

a)Confidence:Start building up your confidence. If you face hesitation in public speaking then your academic life is the best time to kick it away.

The first step to get a job

I have probably spent hundreds of hours last year while surfing the internet for job hunting techniques. Most of the bloggers and career advising sites say that "The first step of job hunting is to write an impressive CV that would earn you a job interview". But I disagree. An impressive CV would definitely earn you a job interview

Its never too early to start your job hunt

This is the first post on the first blog of my life. I have not been much into blog reading or writing so pardon me if I commit a mistake that is considered to be a crime in the world of blogging. :p
I am now 99.109589% Mechanical Engineer with 13 days left to my Final Year Project Submission. And after 17 days I will be starting my first job as Management Trainee :)
The reason I am starting this blog
is to help other student specially the Pakistani students with the problems they usually face during the the final year of their academic life.
